Is IdealJob legit? What it does with your CV, your data and your applications
Who is behind IdealJob, what happens to your CV after you upload it, what the free plan really includes, how applying for you works, and how to delete everything.
Mário Rodrigues · IdealJob
People search "is X legit" for every tool that asks for a CV, and they should. Here is the plain answer for IdealJob.
Who we are
IdealJob is built by a small team in Portugal. The company behind it is the same one that runs the employer side of the product, an applicant tracking system used by companies to post roles and manage candidates. Our founder writes most of these posts. There is a support link on every page and a person answers it.
What happens to your CV
When you upload a CV, we read it to build a profile: your roles, skills, years, and what you say you want. That profile is what the Career Agent scores roles against every morning. The CV file is stored in a private bucket, served only to you through signed links.
We use the CV to produce things for you: CV versions tuned to a role, cover letters, answers to application forms. Nothing is sent to an employer unless you apply, either by clicking through to their site or by using Apply with IdealJob, which you review first.
We don't sell CVs, we don't share them with employers without your action, and we don't use them to train models. The AI we use to score and write is called with your data for your request and the provider doesn't keep it for training.
What the free plan includes
One scored match a day with the reasons, more after you rate a match or run the agent. The daily role email with your top match. The CV builder with every template, uploads and auto-fill. The cover letter builder. The application tracker. Streaks and daily tasks. No card, no trial that converts.
Premium adds every match of the day with reasons and gaps, CV versions per role, cover letter drafts, salary and recruiter insights, and Apply with IdealJob. Students get two months of Premium free with a university email, no card, redeemable any time within a year.
How applying for you works
On Premium you can have IdealJob apply. One click sends a role you chose. Full auto sends roles above a score you set, up to a daily cap. In both cases you see the CV version and the letter first and can change them. Anything the system can't fill honestly, a question only you can answer or a login wall, comes back to you to finish. Every application appears in your tracker and we ask you later whether the employer replied, so the agent learns which companies are worth your time.
What we show about roles
Every role we show is scored against your CV with reasons and gaps, so you can see why it is there. We check roles against their source and hide the ones that have closed. Roles that look like talent pools, reposts or have been listed for a long time are ranked lower and say so on the card. We would rather show you fewer roles than roles that were never going to answer.
Your data, your control
Settings lets you download your CV, change your email with a confirmation link, turn emails off, and delete your account. Deletion removes your CV, profile, matches, applications and account. What remains is what billing law requires if you ever paid.
The honest limits
We are not everywhere. Our coverage is deepest in Europe, the UK and the US, and thinnest in Asia and Latin America. Some employers' forms can't be filled automatically and those applications come back to you. Scores are a judgement, not a guarantee, and a strong score at a company that doesn't reply is still a silence. We write about all of that on this blog because it is the part a legit tool should be open about.
Questions people ask
Does IdealJob sell my CV or my data?
No. Your CV is used to score roles for you and to build your CV versions and letters. It is not sold, shared with employers without your action, or used to train models.
Is the free plan really free?
Yes, with no card. It gives one scored match a day, the application tracker, the CV builder and the daily role email. Premium adds every match, CV versions per role, letters and applying for you.
Can I delete my account and everything with it?
Yes, from Settings. Deletion removes your CV, matches, applications and account. We keep only what the law requires for billing.
